Can business be a force for good?
On 11th July, Cornwall New Energy attended an event at Riverford Organic Farm which asked the question: can business be a force for good? Riverford grows and delivers award-winning organic veg to 50,000 homes across the UK every week.
In June 2018, Riverford became an employee-owned business. Riverford’s founder-owner chose this ownership model to: (i) protect Riverford’s values, (ii) ensure its independence, and (iii) because he believes the employees are the best people for the job. One year on, Riverford are reflecting on the benefits brought about by employee ownership. It can radically transform what a business can do in terms of looking after its staff, protecting the environment and creating a joint vision for a collective future.
The evening included a panel discussion from Riverford founder (Guy Singh-Watson), co-founder of Aardman (David Sproxton) and founder of the community-owned Onion Collective Jessica Prendergrast.
Thank you to Riverford for an inspiring evening and delicious food. For more information about Riverford please watch this video or visit the website.
