University of Exeter's Renewable Energy Engineering Facility (REEF) at Penryn

New University of Exeter Building at Penryn - Renewable Energy Engineering Facility (REEF)

Works have now started on building the University of Exeter's Renewable Energy Engineering Facility (REEF) at Penryn campus. The building will provide a teaching facility for the design, build, test and display of projects relating to renewable energy engineering.

The building will also house the proposed microgrid inverter and battery storage system, funded by the Cornwall new energy project. Renewable energy produced via the photovoltaic panels can be fed into a battery bank and that will be connected together through an intelligent electronic control system along with the load through to the main grid.

The facility will be open to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) during workshops to help identify challenge areas and opportunity for the university to offer support through a business assist. It will offer companies the opportunity to learn more about renewable technologies and collaborate with experts in Renewable Energy from the University of Exeter in Penryn.
