Cornwall New Energy supports International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) event
BRE National Solar Centre runs group activities at Truro High School for Girls
On 23rd June 2017 BRE National Solar Centre took part in an International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) event at Truro High School for Girls. The event celebrates the achievements of women working in engineering and aims to inspire a new generation of girls to investigate the wide variety of careers available when studying Science, Technology, Engineer and Maths (STEM) subjects.
Chris Coonick, a STEM ambassador herself, attended the event and ran an activity called ‘Cornwall Energy Island’ to 13 groups of 6 students in total. The activity focussed on Cornwall’s energy requirement and required the students to decide upon an energy mix from a group of cards with the details of different energy sources on each. No two groups came up with the same energy mix however it was reassuring to see that renewable energy was considerable in each!
